creating a flexible welcome mat for a classic sports icon

FOREST HILLS STADIUM WESTSIDE TENNIS CLUB

This plan creates a new entry plaza for Forest Hills Stadium in the Forest Hills Gardens neighborhood in Queens. The stadium, home to the USTA Championship/US Open from 1923 to 1978, is reconfigured as a concert venue. The new design creates a human-scaled space flexible enough to be used for tennis camps during the day while welcoming 13,000 concert goers at night. Stormwater retention tanks absorb 1.5 million gallons of rainwater annually. The incorporation of trees adds comfort and honors the verdant history of this quintessential Garden Suburb.

In collaboration with Ennead Architects.
