bridging communities through public participation

NEW YORK CITY LOWER EAST SIDE AVENUE D

Opening the Edge seeks to design a new green space to facilitate interaction between residents in New York City’s public housing developments and the larger neighborhood.

As a Design Trust for Public Space Landscape Architecture Fellow, Rebecca Hill collaborated with other fellows and residents of NYCHA’s Lillian Wald Houses to turn fenced off lawn into an asset for the community. This engagement process and the resulting design serves as a prototype for re-thinking how green space around public housing can be more productive and affirming.

Opening the Edge is a project funded and initiated through the Design Trust for Public Space.
