establishing a healthy agricultural estate

P1520660.JPG

RAFT transformed this historic farmhouse and barn complex into an ecologically productive estate garden. A central court is embedded within a native woodland garden. Fieldstone boulders lead to a gravel and stone terrace overlooking the vista across flowering meadows to the wooded horizon. The design provides an intimate foreground from which to feel the soothing expansiveness of the property.

The design replaces a more polite shrub and perennial garden with wilder seeded meadows and restored native woodlands. Daylighted drainage systems support a rain garden of wetland perennials. The landscape enriches habitat for birds, butterflies, and bees that are beneficial to the orchards and organic kitchen gardens of the property.
